Privacy policy

Local Surrey Honey is a trading name of Adventor Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 14448334, whose registered office is 13 Kinglake Court, Woking, Surrey GU21 8AL.

Adventor Ltd is the data controller for personal information collected through localsurreyhoney.co.uk. That means we decide what is collected and why, and we are responsible for looking after it.

You can reach us about anything in this policy, including any request about your own data, at luca@adventordesign.co.uk.

This policy explains what we do with personal information when you use this website — whether you are someone looking for honey, or a producer whose business is listed here.

We only collect what a form asks for. Nothing is collected in the background.

Your email address.

Contact form

Your name, email address, the subject you choose and your message.

Listing application

Business or producer name, contact name, email address, telephone number, website, social media links, town, postcode area, a description of where your hives are, the products you sell, your collection and delivery options, a short producer story, an optional image, and an existing profile link if you are claiming a listing.

Claim a profile

Your name, email address, your role at the business, any note you add, and which listing you are claiming.

Report incorrect information

Your name if you give it, your email address, your message, and which listing it concerns.

Each form also carries a hidden field that people never see. If it is filled in, the submission came from an automated script and is discarded.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, as a normal part of serving and protecting the website.

If — and only if — you accept the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to understand which towns and producers people look for. It records the pages you view, clicks through to producer websites, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and basic device and browser information.

Most listings on this site were compiled from publicly available business information — a producer’s own website, or a beekeeping association’s published list of where to buy local honey. We did not obtain that information from the producer directly, and every such listing is marked “Unverified profile” and shows the source it came from.

Where a business is run by a named individual, information about that business can also be information about a person. We limit what we publish accordingly:

• We publish the town and outward postcode area only — never a full address.
• We do not publish private home addresses, even where an association has published them.
• We do not reproduce personal telephone numbers.
• We do not copy photographs or marketing text from producer websites.

Our lawful basis for this is legitimate interests: helping people find local producers, and helping small producers be found. We have weighed that against the privacy of the people concerned, which is why the limits above exist.

Sending you the newsletter

Your consent. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link, without affecting anything we sent before.

Replying to your message, claim or report

Our legitimate interests — we cannot answer an enquiry without reading it and replying to it.

Reviewing and publishing a listing application

Our legitimate interests in running the directory, together with the permission to publish that you give on the form itself.

Keeping the site secure and working

Our legitimate interests in protecting the website from abuse.

If you submit a listing, we publish the business information you send: the business name, town, postcode area, description, products and how people can buy from you.

• Your contact name, email address and telephone number are used to contact you and are not published, unless you specifically ask us to publish a business phone number that is already public.
• We publish a town and outward postcode, not a full address — unless you tell us you have customer-facing business premises you want people to visit.
• We may edit your description lightly for length and house style. We will not add claims you did not make.

We are a small operation and use two third-party services. We do not sell your data to anyone, and we do not pass your details to the producers listed here.

Netlify

Hosts the website and receives and stores form submissions on our behalf. Netlify is a US company; submissions are stored on its infrastructure.

Google Analytics

Provides the analytics described above, but only where you have accepted. Google is a US company. We have advertising features and data sharing switched off.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.

Both providers above may store or process data outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by the safeguards those providers put in place — the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and standard contractual clauses — which are designed to give your data broadly the same protection it has in the UK.

Newsletter email addresses

Until you unsubscribe, and in any case we remove addresses that have not engaged for three years.

Contact messages and reports

Two years from the date we deal with them.

Listing applications and claims

For as long as the listing is published, and two years afterwards.

Google Analytics data

14 months, after which Google deletes it.

Server logs

Kept by our host for a short period as part of normal operations.

This site sets nothing on your device until you choose. When you answer the cookie banner, we store your choice in your browser’s local storage under the name “lsh-consent”, so we do not have to ask again. That never leaves your browser.

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets its own cookies to recognise repeat visits and group them into sessions. If you decline, none of that happens.

We use no advertising cookies, and no third-party tracking beyond the above.

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
• Have inaccurate data corrected.
• Have your data deleted, including having a listing removed.
• Ask us to restrict how we use it while a concern is resolved.
• Object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests.
• Receive data you gave us in a portable format.
• Withdraw consent at any time, for the newsletter or for analytics.

To exercise any of these, email luca@adventordesign.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.

The site is served entirely over HTTPS. Form submissions are transmitted encrypted and stored by our host behind account authentication. We keep access to submissions limited to those who need it.

No system is perfectly secure. Please do not send us anything sensitive through a website form — if you need to tell us something confidential, email us and we will agree a better route.

This site is intended for adults buying honey and for people running honey businesses. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information about them.

We update this policy when the site changes. The date at the top of this page tells you when it was last revised. If we ever make a change that materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell newsletter subscribers by email.
